During the “100 Hours of
Astronomy” events, a number of Grade 11 and 12 students accompanied Dr.
Alan Hale and Mrs. Patty Mayor for some sightseeing and excursions in
Saida. Alan, the co-discoverer of Comet Hale-Bopp in 1995, had new
things on his horizon when our guide students interpreted the natural
and cultural heritage of Saida, the land of Phoenicians. Together they
went to the Sea Fortress, the Souk, El Khan, Soap Museum, and Ashmoun
Temple and they had fruitful conversations which tackled various aspects
of sciences in general and astronomy in particular.
