Let's have fun with "Sink and Float":
KG 2A children enjoyed learning about "How we organize ourselves"
through which they inquired about the different types of vehicles and
were exposed to different science experiences; one of them was sink and
float.
We started that experience by gathering objects to test in the bathtub,
then we created a chart with 3 columns; the first column was to list the
pictures of each item, the second was for our learners to write their
predictions while the third was to write what actually happened.
Now it's time for the experiment; our learner was asked about his/her
prediction, then he/she tested by putting 1 item at a time, observed it
then recorded the actual results. At this stage our learners were so
excited especially, when they figured out that their predictions were
the same as the tested results. At the end "discussion" about the
experiment was held, since it helped our learners internalize their
observation and start to do higher level of thinking; they begin to
understand the scientific method, learn how to develop hypotheses,
design ways to test them, record and compare the data.
Moreover, this experiment challenged our learners to extend their
learning by trying objects at home, take pictures of their experiment,
and prepare a power point presentation to present it on the L.C.D. in
front of their friends.
Through exploration and discussion our learners will learn that science
is part of their lives and that it's a lot of fun.
