Earth Hour at HHHS
On the 26th of March, 2011, more than a
billion of people all over the world stood for celebrating the action
they take for saving our home, Earth. The school community at H.H.H.S
participated in this global action at 11:30 a.m. as we all gathered for
counting down and turning off the lights for an hour. This action went
beyond the one hour celebration as it engaged our classrooms with
reflective moments on our roles and responsibilities as being global
citizens. Learners across all levels made connections between this event
and global issues, like global warming, climate change, and extinction,
which they have inquired about in previous or current units of inquiry.
As a result, learners reflected on this event as just a beginning for
further actions and demonstrated the caring profile as they thought of
how they can expand their actions beyond school. The reflections of the
learners also showed valuation and appreciation of the school curriculum
that promotes international-mindedness through which they can act and
reflect globally.
