Students always learn better
when they connect what they have learned in books with real-life
situations. With this in mind, a visit to BankMed was organized to help
12th graders (Sociology and Economics section) get a firsthand
experience on some economic concepts studied in the Math subject.
When we reached the bank, the administrators escorted the students to a
meeting room where an overview about some economics concepts was
presented. And the presenters shed the light on many financial problems
such as: debts, credits, money investments, loans….Such direct
interaction rendered the students more inquisitive about the mechanism
of certain technical procedures in relation to the world of finance.
Still the staff was able to quench their curiosity and managed to answer
our students’ questions in a way that made them leave the place with
more to think about regarding their future careers. “I finally
understood the real usage of economics in the workplace,” as reported by
Ibrahim Moaty.
“ It was really interesting to explore the world of finance in practice
after learning about it in theory”, Diane Saniora said.
All in all, it was an opportunity to indulge students in the problems
related to possible future careers on one hand and help them develop a
deeper understanding of real financial issues on the other.
