MUN 2011: Diplomacy and
Position Paper Awards
Houssam Hariri High School delegation has successfully participated in
AL WALID-LAU-MUN, the sixth consecutive High School- Model United
Nations Conference and the first Middle School Conference, which was
held at the Lebanese American University in Beirut. Besides winning
numerous awards- four Diplomacy Awards , Position Paper Award, and the
second place in the MUN Competition on submitting a breath-taking piece
of poetry - the delegates, who were representing China, have gained
leadership skills and have become genuinely interested in creating a
better United Nations, leading eventually to a more sustainable future.
“It was challenging yet enjoyable. We learned to compromise; we
developed our public speaking skills and we learned about international
conflicts,” said Wassim Slim, the delegate in the (WHO) The World Health
Organization Committee.
“Although I felt at first that this award wasn’t enough, I eventually
realized that the experience in itself was really amazing. Indeed, the
fact that I was attending MUN was alone a situation which made me feel
that I was on cloud nine…. I was really excited and happy to share my
ideas with others and to defend the country I was representing, China,
in every possible way,”said Karim Badr, the winner of a Diplomacy Award
in the Middle school program.
“As a security council delegate, I gained great confidence and learnt so
much from the experience,” said Saber Abdullah, the winner of SC
Diplomacy Award. “The overall aim of my committee was to work together
towards a common goal, towards a resolution.”
